Jennifer Y. Gutterman
Jennifer Yaseen Gutterman, born in Evanston Illinois, is a partner in FKB’s Medical Malpractice Defense Group. Jennifer was awarded a joint degree in Economics and International Studies from American University in 1994 and holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Hunter College which she began while working as a member of the editorial staff of The New Yorker Magazine and completed in 2000, during law school. Jennifer graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 2001, where she was a merit scholar and earned the Cali Award for Excellence in Legal Writing. While in law school, Jennifer held a leadership position in the Legal Association of Women and was a member of the Students Against Domestic Violence, the Courtroom Advocates Program and the Brooklyn Hospital Safety-Net Program.
Jennifer began her legal career litigating cases as the staff attorney in the Family Resource Center (FRC), a program of the Partnership for the Homeless. Jennifer advocated on behalf of the families in the FRC in matters involving health care, insurance coverage, housing, and education. In 2003, Jennifer left public service and joined a large, New York based national defense firm where she successfully defended high exposure medical malpractice cases involving birth related injuries, wrongful death, complex rheumatologic, genetic and metabolic disorders, pathology issues including endometrial cancer, Pap screening, and claims of failure to diagnose.
At FKB, Jennifer is responsible for all phases of complex high exposure litigation including assessment, evaluation, investigation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiation and trial.
